Biography

For me photography is a passion, an obsession.
I mostly shoot film with large format cameras of various kinds, especially a Deardorff 10×8. I also use medium format and 35mm and paper negatives.
From 2013 to 2019 seascapes were my main subject, particularly my Other World project. I live in the seaside town of Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, close to the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, so the sea is an obvious subject for me to point a camera at.
In February 2019 I met Ken Keen FRPS who diverted me down the rabbit hole of alternative printing, initially with salt prints and then with other media, such as lumen prints, Kallitypes and Van Dyke Brown. The major emphasis of my photography over the last few years has been making alternative prints, initially from digital negatives from scanned film (mostly 5×4), and then since the end of 2020 from 10×8 film and paper negatives. I still make silver gelatin B&W prints and occasionally shoot colour film.
For the last few years my speciality has been making palladium toned kallitypes from 10×8 film and paper negatives.
I am an Associate of the Welsh Photographic Association (AWPF) and regularly give talks to camera clubs in South Wales and the West of England. If you would like to arrange a talk please contact me.
